Special Education State Update

Tuesday, November 17, 2026 | 9:30 am - 11:00 am EST

Please join leadership from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce's (DEW) Office for Exceptional Children for critical information regarding special education requirements, resources, policy matters, and processes. State level data will be shared regarding IDEA indicators and state level projects supporting special education.

This State Update provides short, high-level overviews of several topics including:

  • Establishing an Internal Monitoring Team
  • Alernate Assessment Decision-Making Tool
  • Areas of ETR/IEP Noncompliance and State Complaints for Educational Benefit
  • IDEA Fiscal Resource
  • RIMPS, Math Plans, and Intervention Intersecting with IEPs

Each of these topics will also be explored in greater depth through dedicated 60-minute sessions offered during OCALICONLINE 2026. If you are interested in learning more beyond the brief morning overview, we encourage you to register for the full conference. A Zoom registration link for the free State Update will be available soon and will provide access only to the Tuesday morning session.

During this session, participants will:

  1. Learn about updates related to state data, how we use data to inform decisions related to state-level activities, resources, and supports to the field.
  2. Hear about new resources, timeline for adoption of IDEA forms training, benefits of internal IDEA monitoring, and compliant findings.
  3. Learn about how IEPs intersect with other state plans.
